Gulf committee on food standards discusses food safety in region

The 24th meeting of Gulf Technical Committee for Standards of Food and Agriculture began yesterday and discussed a number of projects including health specifications for food factories and the expiry of food products. The two-day meeting was organised by Qatar General Authority for Specifications and Standardization, and was attended by officials from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Standardization Authority for GCC.
This year the committee is working on 94 plans and is considering a number of recommendations. Last year, there were 73 projects including some important ones like the specifications related to processed or prepackaged food. The committee also suggested holding a meeting to discuss new specifications for energy drinks and packing of tobacco products.
