An independent technical inspection centre will open in Al Shamal for light and heavy vehicles next year.
After a three-year long study, Fahes launched the single window system in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic and insurance companies allowing vehicle owners to complete all the procedures for renewal of road permits at the Fahes centres. The procedures include technical inspection, vehicle insurance renewal and renewal of road permit.
“The new system has been successful. People are happy with it as it has resolved the issue of crowding and made the procedures faster and simpler,” said Al Kubaisi.
He, however, added that the insurance companies have withdrawn due to some technical issues and efforts are on to bring them back.
“ We have adopted an efficient mechanism to cut the waiting time. Motorists need not have to get down from the car during inspection. They can see the inspection conducted by the technicians in a transparent way,” he added.
Fahes is using state-of¬-the-art equipment at its centres to detect the faults especially those affecting the environment like excessive smoke emission.
However, there is manipulation by the motorists in collaboration with some garages which is beyond the control of Fahes.
“We cannot do anything to stop this because it is done inside the garages. They use some material to reduce the smoke for one to three days. The vehicles we see with blowing smoke on the roads were quite different when they were taken for inspection,” said Al Kubaisi.
