DOHA: Qatar team bagged a bronze medal in the seniors team trial event at the 21st Arab Cycling Championship, finishing behind Algeria and hosts Bahrain on the podium.
The eight-day event, which ends on October 31, is currently on in Bahrain.
Races are being held in three categories: men’s senior; men’s junior men’s and the youth category.
Bahrain won the 67-kilometre event in a time of one hour 28 minutes 17 seconds after racing with an average speed of 46.894km/h.
They finished behind gold-winners Algeria, who are made up of top professional Arab riders.
Algeria’s winning time was 1:25:18 with an average speed of 48.534km per hour.
Qatar’s team comprising of Abdullah Afif, Hamad Al Afif, Moses Khalfan and Ahmed Al Burdaini, claimed third place with a time of 1:29:25.
Qatar’s average speed was 46.385km per hour.
At the presentation ceremony, Qatar Cycling Federation’s (QCF) Secretary General Majid Al Naimi was joined by Arab Cycling Union President Sheikh Faisal bin Humaid Al Qassimi of the UAE and organising committee chairman and Bahrain Cycling Association President Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
More than 300 riders from 14 Arab nations are competing in the championship.
The senior men’s events are being held for the 21st year while the junior men’s races are being staged for the 16th year.
This is only the second time that the youth races have been part of the championship.
