Over 17,000 expatriates attend MoI Eid activities

DOHA: More than 17,000 people attended cultural and sports events organised by the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior on the second day of Eid at different venues.
Events for the Pakistani community and expatriate residents of Ras Laffan and Al Khor and the Nepalese community were held on the second day of Eid. 
Over 5,000 people, especially from the Pakistani and Indian communities, attended celebrations at Al Wakrah Sports Club last evening, while the second day of the cultural show organised in association with Barwa Group at Barwa Workers Sports Complex in Al Khor Industrial Area attracted more than 12,000 audience, including families, especially from the Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani, Nepalese, Sri Lankan and other Asian communities.
Brig. Abdulla Khalifa Al Muftah, Director of the department, Col. Ahmed Zayed Al Muhannadi, Director, Community Policing Department, Col. Sultan Mohammed Al Kaabi, Assistant Director, Community Policing Department, and officers from Community Policing and South Security departments attended both events. 
Addressing the audience in Al Wakrah Sports Club, Brig. Al Muftah extended Eid greetings to the audience and said, “I am glad to be here among you for Eid celebrations for your community.
“The ministry organises events for the expatriate communities on national and religious occasions as we aim to strengthen relationship and partnership with the communities.
“I hope you will enjoy this programme and I am looking forward to more activities in partnership with expat communities on coming occasions.”
The organising committee of the events honoured Brig. Al Muftah with a memento for support to the community. 
Cultural and musical shows were performed by artists and singers from Pakistan, including Afshan Zebi, Noorjahan and Usman Bangesh in Urdu, Pashto, Punjabi, Persian, Balochi and Saraiki languages. 
Popular Pakistani comedian Khawaja Masood was another attraction. 
In Al Khor, Brig. Al Muftah and  Col. Al Muhannadi honoured the winner and runner-up in a tug-of-war championship. H.B.K company won the first prize and the Sri Lankan community team the second. 
Al Khor activities included cultural extravaganzas with performances by artists from Al Khor Indian community. 
Traditional dances and songs, semi-classical dances, Bhangra and folk dances and Energetic Fusion performance were among the highlights. 
Songs and shows in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Nepali, Arabic, Urdu and English were performed by Sariga Orchestra on the second day of Eid.
