Vodafone Qatar successfully raised more than QR1.8m for the third edition of its Ramadan fundraising campaign, “Giving Challenge”.
Three Qatari social media influencers using their social media follower-ship raised funds for their chosen charity during the holy month. Aqeel Al Janahi, Ahmad Abdallah and Ahmad Khalil used their social media channels to encourage their followers to vote for their chosen charities via Vodafone’s “Giving Challenge”. For each vote, Vodafone donated QR10 to each charity by the end of the campaign.
This is more than the amount raised last year, according to a statement from the company. The closing event highlighted the success of this year’s campaign and the efforts and contributions of the three Qatari social media influencers who participated.
Attended by a large number of officials and representatives from the charities to have benefited from the challenge, the influencers themselves as well as Vodafone Qatar employees and the media, the success of the event provides further evidence of how the Giving Challenge has become one of the most high profile and successful CSR programmes in Qatar.
During the event, Mohammed Al Yami, Director of External Affairs at Vodafone Qatar, joined to present cheques to the influencers and to senior representatives from the three charities to benefit – Qatar Charity, Afif and RAF.
Al Yami expressed gratitude to the participants for the involvement and highlighted the continued success of the Giving Challenge as an innovative approach to supporting charitable causes through using the power of social media to raise awareness of the activities of such organisations. He also congratulated the charities for the progress and impact of their various programmes and initiatives and highlighted the strength of Vodafone Qatar’s commitment to supporting them.
Al Yami said: “Our whole team is delighted with the success of this year’s Giving Challenge. Each of our participants have contributed so much to these important causes. The Giving Challenge is a perfect example of how Vodafone Qatar is able to create lasting positive change, drawing on the strengths of our network to connect people to the things that matter most. The continued success of the initiative demonstrates the hugely positive potential for digital technologies and social media in supporting the incredibly important work being done by a wide variety of charitable organisations.”
The funds raised by this year’s participants will be used to support a diverse range of projects and activities ranging from the provision of cataract surgery in Niger, supporting orphans in the Middle East and a number of other humanitarian and development projects.
