Doha: Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) began responding to the humanitarian crisis affecting Nepal due to sweeping floods and subsequent landslides by allocating $240,000 for the crisis.
The sum is dedicated to initial intervention in shelter, hygiene, and health care, for the benefit of 4,000 families (which have 20,000 people on average). A statement released today from QRCS said that the organization's Disaster Information Management Center (DIMC) was activated for gathering real-time information and making assessments. On Thursday, a relief team from QRCS traveled to Nepal to conduct the first phase of response.
QRCS has been active in Nepal since 2013, with many projects in water, sanitation, and health care. Through its office opened in April 2015, QRCS was among the first responders to the Earthquake of 2015, offering support in health care, water and sanitation, food and nonfood items, and power generators. Back then, these operations helped more than 50,000 people.
