Rome: Minister of Municipality H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie has affirmed that food systems transformation is one of the most important issues supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He added that the State of Qatar has realised the importance of enhancing food security and adopting necessary initiatives to develop and sustain food systems that contributed to overcoming global challenges such as international crises, geopolitical changes and the COVID-19 pandemic.

This came during the minister’s comment in the panel discussion of the general ministerial session held under the title ‘resilience of food systems’ as part of the activities of the United Nations Food Systems Summit which came to a close in Rome, Italy.

The summit took place at a time when the capacity of the world’s agri-food systems is challenging a combination of factors to ensure nutritious food and sustainable livelihoods for all. Among these factors are population growth, urbanisation, changing consumption patterns and climate change.

The State of Qatar participated in the summit, which was attended by about 2,000 participants from 160 countries, including leaders and heads of government of 20 countries, with a delegation headed by Minister of Municipality H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie.
