Doha: The Ambassador of Peru to Qatar, H E Jose Benzaquen Perea, has lauded the relations between Qatar and his country as Peru marks its 201st Independence Day tomorrow (July 28).

In a message, Perea said, “Peru celebrates the 201st Independence Day of Peru, historical unity, and the beginnings of stability on the path of a unified Republic. In view of that, I would like to extend my heartfelt felicitations to our community, who has the great opportunity to work in the State of Qatar, accompanied by their family. On this anniversary, we should remember our heroes who made it possible with their ideas of liberty to reach a country in democracy towards progress and development.

“Peru and Qatar have enjoyed cordial relations based on the same principles of freedom and common political and diplomatic objectives, as we share principles and issues in our foreign policies. The Republic of Peru will continue to support the State of Qatar accordingly to strengthen the bilateral friendship which formalized on November 7, 1989, and enhanced when we established our Embassies in Doha and Lima, in 2011 and 2012.”

He noted that both countries’ positive engagement and friendly work have led to a substantial boost in bilateral cooperation in all fields, including economy, trade, investment, education, health, and sport.

“We also recognise the leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who has contributed with his significant humanitarian actions to the international community, including Peru, during the period of COVID-19.

“Therefore, we are witnessing the dynamic work of his government in the arena of multilateralism, where promoting human rights, peace in the world, the rights of the state, mediation between the nations, cooperation in favour of the people, at the same time observing the principle of international law,” the envoy added.

Perea also praised Peruvians’ resilience, saying, “The Peruvian nation is today fully united and determined and has been confronted with challenges along the way. However, we successfully overcome adversity by unswerving faith and resilience in our commitment to a modern democracy.

"Peruvians overseas are playing their role in the progress and development of our country by following the principles of unity, faith, and patriotism.”
