The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has launched a week-long Campaign aimed at creating awareness of the health benefits of breast feeding and providing support for breastfeeding mothers across Qatar.
The campaign is being held to coincide with the World Breastfeeding Week. The 2017 World Breastfeeding Week’s theme is ‘Sustaining Breastfeeding Together,’ aiming to promote, protect and support those breastfeeding.
PHCC will be sharing health promotion services where pregnant women, new mothers and their families receive support and valuable information from committed and skilled personnel.
By working closely with the community, PHCC aims at increasing the number of babies under six months-of-age who are exclusively breastfed as per the World Health Organization recommendation (WHO). Specialized nurses will be available across all PHCC health Centers to guide mothers and fathers thorough breastfeeding facts and help them understand the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby and the risks associated with no breastfeeding and formula feeding.
“We are committed in our drive to provide an inviting environment for mothers and their babies and families to access the highest standard of support through this crucial period of a mother and baby life. to the benefits of breastfeeding extend well beyond basic nutrition. In addition to containing all the vitamins and nutrients your baby needs in the first six months of life, breast milk is packed with disease-fighting substances that protect your baby from illness,” said an official at the Maternal and child Health Department at PHCC.
