DOHA: Al Khor Park, a major attraction for people and currently getting a face-lift, is expected to be ready to welcome visitors next month.
The Public Parks Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning is inspecting safety standards of the park, reports an Arabic daily.
The park was scheduled to reopen in the first quarter of this year, but the contractor delayed handing it over to Public Works Authority (Ashghal), which is implementing renovation.
The reopening was also delayed to ensure the park is equipped with safety and security features.
The 240,000sqm facility lies west of Al Khor Municipality, and has been undergoing a QR250m renovation since June 2010.
Once completed, it will have two sections: One to instructional facilities and the other as a recreational area for children and families.
New facilities include an animal farm, an aviary, an exhibition area, a museum, children’s playground, a toy-train rail, restaurants and mini golf and skating areas.
The park will increase the number of green areas and will have an educational role by offering visitors opportunity to learn about animals and the environment of Qatar when visiting the exhibition area and the museum and attending lectures.
The park will also have an administrative building, gardens and parking slots for visitors. The Peninsula
