Doha: Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah met his Iranian counterpart Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif and discussed means of enhancing relations and issues of common concern.
Earlier, he welcomed Dr Zarif who arrived in Qatar from Kuwait as part of his three-nation tour, including Iraq, at Hamad International Airport.
Iranian Ambassador Dr Mohammed Jawad Asayish was also present.
In a statement following the meeting, Dr Zarif said that all countries of the region should play a role and cooperate in the fight against terrorism, extremism and sectarianism.
Dr Zarif said that his country will continue to help in the fight against extremism, terrorism and sectarianism in the region.
“Everyone in the region should play a role in comabating terrorism and dealing with threats to the region,” he said.
He reiterated his country’s call on its neighbours and friends to work together to deal with serious threats faced by the region.
During his visit to Qatar, the Iranian foreign minister discussed relations between both countries. QNA
