RAF hosts over 2,000 Sri Lankans for Iftar

DOHA: The Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) yesterday organised its first community Iftar this Ramadan, hosting more than 2,000 Sri Lankans. 
The event was organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior as part of their ‘Iftar and Brotherhood with Expat Communities Programme’.
RAF is organising the programme for the fifth consecutive year as part of its Ramadan charity activities.
Some 2,200 Muslim and non- Muslim members of the Sri Lankan expatriate community attended the event at Al Arabi Sports Club. 
A religious lecture and two quiz competitions were also held. 
Sheikh Agar Mohammed, a Sri Lankan Islamic scholar delivered the lecture, while the quiz contests were held separately for Muslims and non-Muslims. Winners received prizes from RAF. Also a security, safety and traffic awareness programme was held. 
Ali Yusouf Al Kuwari, Head,  Public Relations Department, RAF, and Abdul Wahab from the ministry, were among the guests. 
Al Kuwari presented a certificate of appreciation to Nazeem Yakoob, President, Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ).
As part of ‘Iftar and Brotherhood with Expat Communities Programme’, RAF will host 1,800 Nepalese on July 3 and 2,500 Indians and 700 Filipinos on July 10. 
Through community-based initiatives RAF aims to strengthen the relationship and promote brotherhood among members of communities in Qatar and provide opportunity to raise awareness about issues related with their religions, safety and security.
