SEK-Qatar named IB World School

Doha: SEK International School Qatar has been authorised by International Baccalaureate Organisation to offer Primary Years Programme (PYP) and named an IB World School.
SEK-Qatar is also a candidate for IB Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma programmes. 
An IB team praised the school for the successful collaborative planning process, understanding of the programme as a school community, effective use of technology in classrooms and online portal ManageBac to communicate with students and parents.
Marta Rodger, Director- General of the school said: “To become an IB World School is a major achievement at SEK-Qatar as it implies that practices in place are aligned with the high standards that IB sets for schools in the domains of school philosophy, organisation and curriculum. 
“We are proud that we are building a school aimed to educate children and young people who will contribute to building a better world.”
Vivian Arif, Principal, praised the dedication and commitment of staff to achieve the milestone, 
“The IB authorisation follows successful implementation of PYP since we opened the school in 2013. Our staff have worked hard to achieve it the authorisation in such a short time and which is a testament to their teamwork and passion for education. 
“The IB team met students and parents to share learning goals and expectations. SEK-Qatar is committed to building on this success by achieving MYP and DP authorisation in the near future.” 
PYP focuses on the development of the child and helps students understand what is happening around them with a critical eye. It aims to create a curriculum that is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant for learners in the 3–12 age group.
The curriculum is trans-disciplinary and focuses on issues that go across subject areas.
