DOHA: Qatar Airways (QA) will begin flights on Amsterdam-Doha route from June 16.
Akbar Al Baker, Group Chief Executive, Qatar Airways, announced details of services to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, during a press conference in Amsterdam yesterday.
The route will operate six times a week with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
“As an airline, we are always looking for opportunities to grow and expand our worldwide network,” said Al Baker.
“Amsterdam is a major capital, one of the busiest airports in Europe, and one of the most popular tourism destinations. We have been pursuing the opportunity to open this route for some time and I am pleased to have achieved our ambition. We have high expectations for the flight with many passengers already booked on our new flights,” he said.
Flights will leave Amsterdam mid-afternoon to arrive in Doha late in the evening and will give passengers the convenience and flexibility of reaching Doha and connecting to more than 140 destinations through Hamad International Airport (HIA), QA’s Doha-hub.
Passengers can connect with 47 destinations in Africa and the Middle East, explore 43 destinations in Asia and travel to two of the most popular Australian cities, Melbourne and Perth, all via Doha. The return flight to Amsterdam will leave Doha in the morning to reach Amsterdam in early afternoon.
“Passengers to and from Amsterdam will have the opportunity to enjoy QA’s exceptional service and the world’s best Business and Economy Class service while travelling on our Boeing 787 offering them luxury and comfort.
“Convenient connection times and seamless transit experience offered by HIA will make onward connectivity to our worldwide network a pleasure,” said Al Baker.
The Boeing 787 is one of the latest generation aircraft in QA’s 158-strong fleet. It offers 254 seats configured in two classes, with 22 fully-flat bed seats in Business Class and 232 in Economy Class.
Flying non-stop, the journey time between Doha and Amsterdam is six hours and 35 minutes and passengers can enjoy superior on board entertainment and access over 2,000 blockbusters, films, music and television from Oryx One.
The new services will complement QA’s freighter services to Amsterdam, boosting capacity by 10 percent.
QA Cargo, the world’s fifth largest, launched airfreight services to Schiphol Airport in 2003. The airline is celebrating 12 years of supporting the successful growth of Dutch and international businesses by operating B777 freighter services connecting Amsterdam with worldwide markets via Chicago and its Doha hub.
