With community initiatives drawing over 1.5 million people annually, Qatar Foundation (QF) is set to expand and introduce new programmes through 2023.

Several community outreach initiatives including sports, recreation programmes, and special programmes for women and children, and Year of Culture initiatives are among the several activities, according to QF’s Community Development team.

In a statement to The Peninsula, the team said that Community Outreach is important for Qatar Foundation due to several reasons including building a collaborative relationship, raising awareness and advocacy, and tailoring programmes to cater to community needs.

QF’s Community Development will expand activities across facilities within Education City; and it will include triathlons, aquathlons, swim meets, grassroots football and basketball competitions. National university league for basketball and cricket will also be organised; and a special Education City football tournament will be held this year.

A Women and Girls football initiative and Glow in the Dark basketball tournament were launched on Qatar National Sport Day 2023.

Activities by different embassies designed for communities will also be held at QF venues in addition to activities of QF entities such as the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) and Aljam’a 2023.

The community development initiatives at QF provide a platform to fully engage communities on the ground and build programmes that contributes to the development of the country.

While other initiatives at QF provide opportunities for excellence in education and research, it’s through community outreach initiatives that the foundation connects more with the people.

“Community outreach facilitates building collaborative relationships with local communities, educational institutions, government agencies, and other stakeholders. These relationships can lead to mutually beneficial partnerships, which can enhance the impact and effectiveness of our programs and initiatives. It’s essential to have our community engaged with us, after all, everything we do is in service of them,” QF’s Community Development team said.

Community outreach initiatives also provide an opportunity for QF to continue to raise awareness about the importance of education, science, and research in the community.

It helps advocate the organisation’s mission, goals, and initiatives and engages community members in supporting these causes.

This can lead to increased community involvement, volunteerism, and advocacy efforts, which can further advance the organisation’s impact and influence.
Community outreach helps QF better understand the specific needs and challenges of the community.

“By engaging with the community, we can gather feedback, insights, and data that can inform the design and implementation of our initiatives. This helps ensure that the organization’s efforts are aligned with the community’s needs, thereby increasing the relevance and effectiveness of our work,” said the QF’s Community Development team.
