Washington: The Washington Post reports that "at least three people were just shot near the White House, including two National Guardsmen. Their conditions are currently unknown."

"One of the guardsmen was in critical condition, the people said. By 3 p.m., D.C. police said they had one suspect in custody," The Washington Post stated.

According to L'Agence France-Presse (AFP), the two members of the National Guard were shot Wednesday just blocks from the White House, according to officials, as a spokesperson for Donald Trump said the president has been briefed on the "tragic situation."

"Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington DC," Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said on X, without describing the health status of the two victims.

AFP, quoting an official, confirmed that the two National Guard members shot near White House have died.
