Doha: The Annual Symposium 2015 of Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ) was held on Friday from 7 to 9pm at Al Ghazal Club, Doha, with the participation of member families and invitees. The theme of the event was ‘The Concept of Education in Islam’.
Sri Lankan Ambassador and Chief Guest Prof. (Dr) W M Karunadasa addressed the gathering and released the annual souvenir.
In his keynote speech, Sheikh Muiz Bukhary, Islamic Scholar from Sri Lanka, highlighted the life of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) as an example of how we should live our lives. He spoke about the importance of the word ‘Iqra’ (Read) being the first word revealed, as a significant word to promote education in Islam.
He stressed the need of spending a few minutes of the day in contemplation and reflection as how Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to do and said a positive outlook in life is important for our well-being. SLMQ President Nazem Yakoob also spoke. Token of appreciation were awarded to Bukhary and those who excelled in education, sports and community welfare.
