DOHA: Some families shied away from shows at crowded malls and headed to verdant parks to spend the second day of Eid holidays yesterday.
Aspire Park was one of the places visitors thronged in huge numbers to enjoy outdoor activities organised by Aspire Logistics in line with Qatar Tourism Authority’s (QTA) Eid Al Adha Festival.
For the first time, Aspire has put up an exciting water sports show, featuring fly boarding, wake boarding and jet skiing exhibition.
“This is the first time for us to organise a water sports show in the lake. We want the people to gather to celebrate Eid in the park,” Lolwa Al Marri, Head of Events, Aspire Logistics, told The Peninsula yesterday.
Held from 4pm to 7pm yesterday, the show witnessed wake boarders, jet skiers and fly boarders showcase their prowess in front of hundreds of enthusiasts who took photos of the spectacular show.
“The event is only for today. We will see reactions from the people. As you see, there are many people coming, so maybe we will do it again,” Al Marri said, adding they hope to encourage more people to frequent the park and enjoy activities.
“Other activities are pony ride for families, cart, train and bicycle rental during Eid holidays and weekends,” she said, adding while some activities are free, others are available for a minimal fee.
Little children queued to experience pony riding for a QR10 fee. “This is one way for my five-year-old son to learn how to care for animals and that’s why I wanted him to have this experience,” said Fahd Mohammed, a father of two.
While many families enjoyed picnic under the shade of trees, some people exercised running on the three-km rubber-floored jogging track.
Others took their photos at gorgeous fountains and lush green hills while some enjoyed sumptuous meal at cafes.
“Weather is good, so the entire family has decided to spend the day out instead of going to a mall. We don’t have to spend a lot to enjoy Eid break going shopping at malls, we can enjoy fresh air outdoors and get the opportunity to keep fit,” said Mar Gutierrez.
