Doha, Qatar: Argentina stunned defending champions Italy while Iran, Venezuela and Brazil advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17 World Championship in Doha.
Argentina defeated Italy 3-1 in the round of 16, winning 25-20, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16 at Aspire Zone’s Ladies Sports Hall.
Italy had topped Group B with a perfect nine points, while Argentina finished third in Group C with three points. Iran continued their impressive run with a straight-sets victory over Chinese Taipei, the bronze medallists from the previous edition.
The Iranians won 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 to maintain their perfect record after topping Group E with nine points. Venezuela booked their place in the last eight after edging Bulgaria 3-2 in a closely fought encounter.
Venezuela lost the opening two sets 28-30, 17-25 before fighting back to win the next three 25-19, 25-18, 15-12. Brazil also advanced comfortably, defeating India 3-0 with scores of 25-17, 25-13, 25-14.
France joined the quarter-finalists after overcoming Spain 3-2 in another five-set contest, winning 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 15-10.
