Baghdad: Iraqi Prime Minister H E Mohammed Shia Al Sudani yesterday praised Qatar’s pioneering experiences in successful investments, and the cooperation between his country and Qatar.

He stressed that the promising cooperation between the two countries started effectively after the visit by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Baghdad recently.

In a speech during a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for a huge tourism complex being implemented by Estithmar Holding in central Baghdad, which includes a large hotel, a residential complex and various tourist facilities, Al Sudani considered this project the first for Qatari investments in Iraq, noting the pioneering companies and experiences Qatar possesses in successful investments.

He pointed out that this project will be the first within the context of cooperation between Iraq and Qatar, as there will be other projects in various sectors, expressing his government’s keenness to enhance investment opportunities and work towards economic integration and improve the investment environment that attracts Arab and foreign investments.

He also praised the spirit of initiative and determination in implementing the first cooperation between his country and Qatar, pointing to the promising investment opportunities that Iraq possesses.

The Iraqi Prime Minister also highlighted his government’s keenness to provide the necessary support and facilities to investors, as well as its endeavour to implement projects in various fields, whether infrastructure, service or housing.

The Iraqi Prime Minister said, “This investment project, which is being implemented by the Qatari Investment Holding Company, will be a distinctive architectural mark added to the architectural identity of Baghdad,” pointing to the ideas included in its designs inspired by the history and cultural landmarks of Baghdad, which will make it “an architectural masterpiece” befitting the Iraqi capital.

Al Sudani explained that his government views Arab investment as one of the gateways to economic integration, indicating that his government has adopted since assuming power the principle of economic partnerships between Iraq and its Arab brothers and regional countries as an option, and will work to support it.
