Doha: The “Skate Girls of Kabul” exhibition, which was so warmly received when it first opened at Qatar Museums (QM) Gallery Katara in July, brought with it a series of hugely successful children’s summer camps and community workshops running now through the end of the exhibition in October.
The education programme was first launched to complement the “Skate Girls of Kabul” exhibition allowing participants to engage in art making in new and unexpected ways. The workshops and summer camps are part of QM’s ongoing commitment to providing a variety of events that appeal to diverse communities and seek to inspire creativity and innovation by enriching the lives of all those who live in and visit Qatar.
• Similarly, a four-day summer camp for boys ages 7 to 13 will take place at the gallery from August 28 - 31 from 3:00pm - 5:00pm. The boys summer camp aims to engage participants with the exhibition through different activities.
• Move their Stories, a stop motion animation workshop is a two-day event taking place on August 28 and 29, which will ask boys and girls between the ages of 9 to 13 to build characters out of clay based on the exhibited “Skate Girls of Kabul” photographs. These will be used to create a short animation. Timings are from 12:00pm - 2:00pm at QM Gallery Katara.
• A workshop, running from 11am - 1 pm on September 11-14 will allow boys and girls between the ages of 6 to 16 to design and decorate their own skateboard.
• Finally, QM has also organised an opportunity for local schools to book their own guided tours and access to the exhibition activities. Bookings are available for grades 1 through 12 in 60 minute increments from Sunday to Thursday. Slots are available between September 20th through October 19th between 8:00am and 2:00pm.
