As a combined impact of restrictions and increasing vaccination rates, the daily COVID-19 cases have come down to below 100 in Qatar for the first time since April 2020. The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has reported only 87 new COVID-19 cases yesterday and among them 35 were travellers.
According to daily COVID-19 reports by the Ministry, 54 new cases were reported during the beginning of the pandemic on April 1, 2020. Since then the number increased and reported over 100 daily.
However, in recent weeks, due to COVID-19 restrictions, increasing vaccination, travel policies and other measures a consistent reduction in the number of new daily infections were reported in the country.
Since May 29, number of cases found among community members reduced below 100. Yesterday, the Ministry reported only 52 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 among community members.
“However, it is still important to be cautious as the second wave is not yet over and there are still two highly contagious and highly virulent strains of the virus that are actively circulating in the community,” said the Ministry in its daily COVID-19 report.
The Ministry also reported 113 people have recovered from the virus in 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases recovered in Qatar to 219,041.
In addition, the Ministry announces one new death of a person aged 61, who had a history of chronic disease and was receiving the necessary medical care. A total of  2,989,246 vaccine doses have been administered since the start of the national COVID-19 Vaccination Program and  33,189 doses have been administered in 24 hours.
Also 71.9% of the eligible population has now received at least one dose of the vaccine. 96.3% of over 60s (the most vulnerable population group) have been vaccinated with at least one dose, while 90.9% have received both doses.
To recall, the Minister of Public Health, H E Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari has recently said that restrictions for those who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 and regular testing will be in place until a large number of people are vaccinated across the world to a level that can eliminate the virus.
The date of implementation and the duration of each next phase will depend on the epidemic indicators, which depend to a great extent on the degree of compliance of the community members with the current measures, restrictions and guidance by the government.
