DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has initiated action against six mobile shops found selling used mobile sets as brand-new to customers.
The shops are at Barwa Commercial City and in Al Gharafa.
The ministry said it has intensified inspection campaign for commercial outlets during Ramadan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning.
A joint team of inspectors from both ministries are conducting raids on commercial outlets all over the country.
Eight violations were registered at butcheries in Doha, Muaither and Al Rayyan for not complying with the price list issued by the ministry for meat products.
Some butcheries were caught cheating customers by selling subsidised meat at higher prices after changing the names of the source countries.
Inspectors also registered 18 violations at shops selling beauty products, home appliances, fruit and vegetables at Salwa Road and Thursday Friday Souq.
Violations include not displaying prices of products and selling counterfeit items.
Surprise raids were also conducted at tyre shops at Salwa Road during which 10 violations were detected. They included selling substandard tyres not meeting Qatari specifications.
The ministry has urged customers to contact it if they come cross any violation, on toll free number 16001, or send e-mail to info@mec.gov.qa, or post comments on its official Tweeter account. The Peninsula
