Leaders greet presidents

Doha: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday sent a cable of congratulations to Slovenian President Borut Pahor on his country’s National Day. The Emir also sent cables of congratulations to Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and Mozambique  President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi on their countries’ Independence Days.
Deputy Emir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani also sent greeting cables to Pahor, Grabar-Kitarovic and Nyusi.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani sent similar congratulatory cables to Pahor, Grabar-Kitarovic and Nyusi.

Qatar slams attack on UAE convoy


Doha: Qatar has condemned an attack on a convoy of UAE officials in the Somali capital Mogadishu which killed and injured several people.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement said that the act of evil is contrary to human and ethical values and teachings of religions and affirmed Qatar’s support to the UAE. It reiterated Qatar’s stance that rejects violence in all its forms and manifestations, whatever its motives and causes.
The ministry offered Qatar’s condolences and sympathies to victims’ families.

RAF to host 7,000 workers for Iftar


DOHA: For the fifth consecutive year, The Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) will host members from four expatriate communities for Iftar. At ‘Iftar and brotherhood with communities’ RAF will host 7,000 single workers from Sri Lankan, Indian, Nepalese and Filipino communities. 
Today, it will host 2,000 workers from the Sri Lankan community at Al Arabi Sports Club, followed by 1,800 Nepalese on July 3 and 2,500 Indian and 700 Filipinos on July 10. The events will be hosted with the Ministry of Interior. 
Diplomats from the embassies of these countries and community leaders are expected to attend.
Ali Yusouf Al Kuwari, Head. Public Relations Department, RAF, said, “Iftar and brotherhood with communities of RAF gives an opportunity to share the Iftar table with non-Arab Muslims love and humanity with them.”
Islamic scholars from Sri Lanka, India, Nepal and the Philippines will deliver speeches. The events will also feature quiz competitions on Islamic knowledge. Winners will receive prizes. 
A traffic awareness campaign by the Traffic Department will be another highlight of the event.
