DOHA: Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) joined leading organisations across the word, gaining Global Reporting Initiative — 4 (GRI 4) for its sustainability reporting.
The achievement from the Netherlands-based Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has enabled Kahramaa to use ‘Materiality Disclosure Service Icon’ after completing norms and pre-conditions of Materiality Disclosure Service.
The latest achievement is for Kahramaa’s Sustainable Report 2014. It is made yearly by Conservation & Energy Efficiency Department (Tarsheed) with contributions from other departments.
Kahramaa has also received two awards for its first Sustainability Report 2013 titled ‘Changing mindsets, Inspiring the future’.
The annual report is a key component of the sector sustainability programme to enhance management of economic, environmental and social impacts in the energy and industry sector, optimising its contribution to Qatar’s development.
It constitutes a commitment by the sector to implement economic, human, social and environmental sustainable development as envisaged in Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar National Development Strategy 2011-2016.
Kahramaa has also bagged ‘Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Social Value’ award, aligning its objectives with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The maiden award presented to Kahramaa in a ceremony was Qatar Today Business Excellence Award 2015 under the auspices of Qatar Chamber.
The honour recognised efforts of Tarsheed initiatives to support CSR activities in Qatar, spreading awareness about rational use of water and electricity.
Tarsheed aims to reduce per capita water and electricity consumption by 35 percent and 20 percent, respectively, by 2017.
