Director-General of General Endowment Department Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani and Dean of the College of Islamic Studies of HBKU Dr. Recep Senturk addressing a press conference at the headquarters yesterday.
Doha, Qatar: The General Endowment Department of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has launched a scholarship programme for the postgraduate students of the College of Islamic Studies of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).
Under the programme initially, 36 scholarships have been provided to eligible students, which will increase gradually to 120 scholarships.
Postgraduate scholarships include PhD programme in Islamic Finance, Master of Islam and International Affairs programme, Master of Science programme in Islamic Finance, Master of Science programme in Islamic Art, Architecture and Urbanism, and Master of Contemporary Islamic Studies programme.
The announcement was made in a press conference organised by the Department at its headquarters in Al Waab yesterday.
Addressing the press conference Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, Director-General of General Endowment Department said: “Today, we are launching postgraduate scholarships in cooperation with Hamad Bin Khalifa University.”
“The first batch includes 36 scholarships for thirty masters’ and PhD theses for Qatari researchers, and six theses for distinguished students from expatriates, in a variety of fields of Islamic sciences, especially endowments, economy, and society,” said Dr. Sheikh Khalid.
He said that the scholarships will be increased to 120 in time.
“We seek to expand these scholarships as well, through the opening of the College for the Diploma in Islamic Studies and the Diploma in Islamic Finance.”
He said that these scholarships align with the objectives of the endowment fund for education and cultural development, which witnessed a great expansion and diversification during the last period.
Dr. Sheikh Khalid said that the Department, in order to achieve its motto, the endowment, is a community partnership that expands community partnerships with the various sectors of society.
Dean of the College of Islamic Studies of HBKU Dr. Recep Senturk announced two new diploma programmes.
“On this occasion, we announce two new diplomas through which researchers can complete their scientific career,” said Senturk. He expressed his happiness with this community partnership with the General Department of Endowments, which opens wide horizons in the fields of academic and other cooperation and provides research opportunities for researchers through various masters and PhD programmes.
The topics of the research which received the scholarships include ‘Towards a Knowledge-Based Economy’; ‘Assessing the Ecosystem’; ‘Value Creation Factors Through Cybersecurity’; ‘Intangible Assets’; ‘Digital Currency Technology in Qatar’; ‘Digital Currency Applications in Qatar’; and the Impact of ‘Demographic Factors on the Performance of Islamic Banks’.
Other topics are ‘Islamic social finance and its contribution to the goals of sustainable development’; ‘Efforts of the State of Qatar in serving Holy Quran’; ‘Impact of Management Quality on Environmental’; ‘Social and Institutional Governance Risks’, and ‘Towards Effective Endowment Investment and Governmental Social Expenditures’ among many others.
