Doha: Former Grand Mufti of Bosnia Dr. Mustafa Ceric said that Qatar’s hosting of interfaith conferences for nearly 20 years is an evidence of its keenness to bring the followers of the religions closer and to spread dialogue among peoples, stressing that this leads to peace and security throughout the world.

Talking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of his participation in the Doha Conference on Interfaith Dialogue being held in Doha, Dr. Ceric said that such conferences hosted by Qatar give reassurance that dialogue between religions, cultures and civilisations is the effective way to reject hate speech and focus on the religious and moral values.

The theme of this year’s conference, “Religions and Hate speech... Scriptures and Practice”, is very important, not only at the level of participants, but also at the level of international relations, because peace and rapprochement between religions in turn lead to world peace, he said.

He added that at these critical and volatile times that the world is going through, Qatar proves that it is a pioneer and a leader in the civilisational alliance of the 21st century, and that it places such meetings and conferences at the forefront of its concerns. It affirms its continuous endeavour towards dialogue and global peace.

Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue is organising the conference this year under the theme “Religions and Hate speech... Scriptures and Practice”, in order to review the causes of this phenomenon, which has grown dangerously in recent years, and to discuss ways to confront it legally, religiously and morally.

The conference, which was scheduled to conclude yesterday evening, revolved around three related areas: Hate Speech (causes, drivers and risks), Types and Forms of Hate Speech, and Desired Actions for Combating Hate Speech.
