Ministry of Health raises awareness of social workers and professionals in Schools about Cancer

Doha: Ministry of Public Health organized a two-day workshop for social workers and Professionals in public preparatory and secondary schools to raise awareness and correct misconceptions about cancer. The event was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Hamad Medical Corporation and Primary Health Care Institutions, in addition to Qatar Cancer Society.

Approximately, seventy-one school social workers professionals (male & female) participated in the workshop, which was dedicated to raising public awareness of cancer, methods of prevention and treatment and early detection.

The event was intended to correct misconceptions about cancer, shed light on how to deal with the disease from a psychological perspective, in addition to reaching an agreement on the required action and measures that can be implemented through the relevant institutions in preventing cancer.

Working papers were reviewed during the workshop, that reflect the successful global experiences of interventions in the field of cancer detection and treatment at the school level.

In this context, the Head of the Non-Communicable Diseases Section at the Ministry of Public Health Dr. Kholoud Al-Mutawa, said that the workshop was part of the national campaign to correct misconceptions about cancer, and aimed at solidifying the efforts to raise awareness and correct misconceptions about cancer for the sake of building more healthier and brighter world free of cancer, in addition to creating more opportunities to build global awareness and take the necessary action that underpins changing misconceptions about cancer.

She added that the Ministry of Public Health is continuing its efforts in the field of health promotion, raising awareness about cancer prevention, and correcting misconceptions through the efforts of various work teams, including the implementation of many specialized programs and projects. She also hailed the ongoing cooperation between the Ministry, Hamad Medical Corporation and primary health care institutions in this field in addition to Qatar Cancer Society, to achieve the global goal of reducing premature deaths for people with cancer by 25 percent by the year 2025.
