Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas disclosed that he indeed met with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who is also being groomed as presidential bet in 2016.
But he said the meeting is more of discussion on peace and order situation.
Duterte’s image as crime-buster is being capitalized by his supporters for his presidential bid. Recently, Duterte was criticized for his alleged links to the infamous Davao Death Squad who gained notoriety for killing criminals in Davao City.
“Sinabi niya, kinuwento niya sa akin, kasi nasa field din ako nun, yung mga nag-alok sa kanya na VP at kung ano sinagot niya, yun lang. Tapos nag dinner kami, matalik kaming kaibigan ni Digong (Duterte’’s nickname) , kaya maayos naman ang aming pag-uusap,” said Roxas.
Vice President Jejomar BInay earlier declared that he is considering Duterte as his runningmate.Duterte, however, rejected it.
Duterte earlier disclosed that among the presidentiables, it is Roxas who is close to him.
