DOHA: There has been an overwhelming response from university and high school students to an internship competition run by the country’s largest offshore oil producer, Maersk Oil Qatar. The Future Leaders Internship is part of the company’s commitment to equipping young people with the experience, skills and confidence to lead in the future.
Maersk Oil Qatar is offering ten bright young stars of the next generation a unique opportunity to win an internship that will also include the chance to meet with its Managing Director, Head of Qatarization and Corporate Social Responsibility team to gain real insight into the operations of an international oil company and their own career potential.
Sheikh Jassim bin Saud Al Thani, Head of Qatarisation at Maersk Oil Qatar, said:
“Our Future Leaders Internship competition has clearly struck a chord with students, who’ve responded in droves through www.FindYourPlace.qa. As a company, we have developed one of the world’s most complex offshore oil fields, this is a success story that students are keen to be involved in. We are also very grateful to the Supreme Education Council and universities in Qatar for their support, which has greatly contributed to the ongoing success of the campaign. We encourage students who haven’t applied yet to not miss this opportunity.”
Through career advisors and social media channels, the internship has been supported and promoted by Qatar University, Hamad bin Khalifa University, Texas A&M University, Georgetown University, Northwestern and Carnegie Melon University. So far more than 200 students have entered the competition.
Commenting on the internship opportunity, Mohammad Al Ramahi, a senior at Texas A&M University, said that the opportunity to meet with senior management is a “great way to bridge the gap between students and management at the top of the hierarchy”.
For a chance to win one of the internships on offer, students are asked to write a paper that is between 500-1000 words, in either English or Arabic, on the impact of the oil industry in Qatar. The deadline of the competition is 3:00 PM on 31 May 2015, and papers should be submitted on www.findyourplace.qa.
