Doha: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), represented by the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), has announced the launch of a new electronic service that enables customers to request for electricity connection to electric vehicle charging stations at their places.
This service is facilitating the application process to encourage and support the use of electric vehicles and enables the users to request an electricity connection (new connection, additional meter) for their own electric vehicle charging stations.
This will be according to the working mechanism announced on the Tarsheed section of the digital platform on Kahramaa website km.qa.
Kahramaa also provides the ability to request this service by choosing KMSP in customers’ services section of Kahramaa’s website as well.
The working mechanism for installing and operating electric vehicle charging stations is divided into two parts: first, the stations deployed in private government buildings and public places owned by the state, and secondly, delivery to private places such as malls and hotels. The charging units in these places must also be of the DC category, fast charging.
The application mechanism for the residential sector, in which only AC units of no more than 11kW are allowed, will be announced soon, according to the guideline for electric vehicle charging stations published in the ‘Tarsheed’ section of Kahramaa’s website.
Commenting on the launch of this new electronic service, Engineer Abdul Aziz Ahmed Al Hammadi, Director of the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department, expressed his happiness with this new step in support of efforts to establish the necessary infrastructure for sustainable transport.
“Tarsheed, in cooperation with the Steering Committee of the National Strategy for Charging Stations for Electric and Hybrid Vehicles in Qatar and the infrastructure of Kahramaa, the Ministry of Transportation and the project’s consultancies, has recently completed a strategy which will be announced soon,” said Al Hammadi. He said that the specifications that must be available at charging stations for electric and hybrid vehicles were also approved and announced on Tarsheed section on Kahramaa’s website.
“We are proud of this progress, which would not have been possible without the concerted efforts of all stakeholders,” said Al Hammadi.
The service of delivering electricity to electric vehicle charging stations comes as a continuation of Kahramaa’s intensive efforts to provide an integrated system that supports sustainability, fulfils the requirements of the smart grid, and encourages the adoption of sustainable transport solutions and the reduction of harmful carbon emissions, in order to reach its goal of achieving complete carbon neutrality in 2050.
Kahramaa, through Tarsheed has completed the installation and operation of 25 charging stations for electric vehicles, distributed over a number of vital sites in Qatar. Tarsheed is also implementing the project of 100 stations building infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations, which is scheduled to be completed before the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to provide all the services and infrastructure necessary for the operation and use of electric vehicles.
