The Torch Doha, member of Leading Hotels of the World, joined the global Earth Hour initiative for the 6th time last night and switched off its exterior lights from 8.30PM – 9.30PM. The highest building in Qatar joined the Earth Hour activities in Aspire Zone, Doha’s Sports City and successfully saved 200KW equivalent to 200,000 Watts by switching off a total of 3,780 LED lights.
All restaurants and lounges switched off or dimmed lights and served food and signature mocktails in candle light. Non-essential lights and air conditioning in the public areas were switched off for the hour.
Digital screens inside the hotel featured the hotel’s participation in the Earth Hour, the world’s largest environmental event in history, to create awareness for guests and staff members about sustainability and energy saving in Qatar.
“By taking part in this “Lights off” event every year, we are confirming our commitment to operational actions that benefit the planet. We are happy to join the Earth Hour initiative for the sixth consecutive year and encourage businesses and individuals to take action against climate change. Our energy saving efforts are not limited to this event and we encourage everyone to show concern for the environment”, says General Manager, Sherif Sabry.
Other initiatives encouraging sustainability and energy-saving currently in place include: relying on natural daylight in Madar meeting room, Flying Carpet and Three Sixty restaurants.
