Situated centrally on the Mediterranean coast of North Africa, Tunisia shares borders with Algeria on the west and southwest and Libya on the southeast. Home of the ancient city of Carthage, Tunisia was once an important player in the Mediterranean. The Romans, Arabs, Ottoman Turks and French realised their strategic significance, making it a hub for control over the region. Tunisia is more prosperous than its neighbours. Agriculture employs a large part of the workforce and tourism is a key sector.
Lulu Group has been importing since long a variety of fruits and vegetables — cherry tomato, fresh dates, fennel bulb, leeks, mushroom, orange and Mandrain etc from Tunisia. A wide range of jams, harissa, droo, bsissa, pickles, olive oil, cumin powder, ras hanout, carvi caraway, coriander, dried dates and lella baya etc from the country constitute a major portion of Lulu’s imports.
Lulu Group is the largest retail chain in the Middle East, Egypt, India, Malaysia and Indonesia operating 133 hypermarkets and 15 shopping malls with an annual turnover of US$6.2bn globally.
