Automobile dealers have provided 3,794 substitute vehicles to their customers last year free of charge, following delay in maintenance works during warranty period, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce said yesterday.
The move is in line with the Consumer Protection Law that compels commercial agents and distributors to provide substitute products to consumers free of charge, if maintenance works performed under warranty take longer than 15 days.
Statistics released by the Ministry showed the number of alternative vehicles provided by the dealers under the law increased from 1,300 in 2015 to 3,794 in 2016, following strict implementation of the law.
This increase “reflects the Ministry’s efforts to protect consumers and create a competitive environment that provides options to consumers on maintenance, spare part sales and insurance”, said a statement.
The Ministry said that it will intensify its inspection campaigns to ensure that car dealers comply with their obligations and will refer those who violate laws to the authorities concerned for legal action.
