Agriteq 2017 boosts food security efforts

The four-day Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (Agriteq 2017), which concluded yesterday at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), paved the way to consolidate the GCC region’s efforts and worldwide to strengthen the agricultural sector and ensure food security. 

Agriteq 2017 provided a valuable platform in boosting Qatar’s agricultural market by promoting local products, offering industry consultations and showcasing effective solutions to emerging challenges and take advantage of current opportunities to raise the bar on agricultural development and increase its contribution to Qatar’s GDP to more than 4 percent annually.

The exhibition was organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment under the patronage of H E Sheikh Abdulla bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Interior Minister. 

It received commendation from regional and international exhibitors for its pivotal role in supporting the development of the agricultural sector to meet the country’s food security goals.

The 5th edition witnessed the participation of over 100 local, regional and international industry-related companies from Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Turkey and Mexico, among others. 

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment made a strong presence to show the government’s support in local agricultural projects by leveraging international best practices and latest technological innovations in the agricultural industry.

A variety of the latest agricultural products and technologies from top-notch international companies was featured at the event, in addition to showcasing latest technologies in irrigation, livestock farming, dairy, gardening, poultry, veterinary products and fisheries.

The latest edition was highly commended by GCC-based and international exhibitors who noted the importance of this event as an excellent platform to find effective solutions in promoting investment in agricultural and livestock production projects. 

Participants further underlined the significance of the event as a strategic platform to reinforce effective communication with decision-makers, government officials, producers, suppliers and industry leaders and build lucrative partnerships between Qatari and international businesses for new projects.

Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, Assistant Undersecretary of Agricultural Affairs, Livestock and Fisheries at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, said that high-level GCC and international participation in the event reflects the growing confidence in the Qatari agricultural market.
