Dr Steffen Sommer (pictured) has been announced as the new principal for Doha College and will succeed Mark Leppard from September 2015. Steffen brings over 23 years of educational experience having led three successful British international schools across Europe. He is currently the Principal for Nord Anglia’s College Champittet in Lausanne, Switzerland — a two campus bi-lingual school offering three different diploma certifications.
Steffen is a well-known and active figure within international education, he is currently Vice Chair of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), and a co-founder of the international division of HMC, a professional association of heads of the world’s leading independent schools.
Doha College’s current Principal Mark Leppard who has been part of the Doha College community for over 17 years moves to the British School Al Khubairat in Abu Dhabi as Headmaster in September 2015. Mark explained how intensive the recruitment process for his successor had been. “Our search for a new Principal has been a rigorous process. Our three shortlisted candidates joined us in Qatar for a week of meetings with students, staff, parents and governors, they also delivered Primary and Secondary assemblies. We wanted to ensure we had the right leader who fits Doha College’s values and will lead the school successfully into our new campus development.”The Peninsula
