DOHA: Playing an attractive brand of football, Iran yesterday edged past Turkey 3-2 in a hotly-contested game to win the 11th International Friendly Tournament.
Turkey scored the first goal in the match in the 2nd minute through Cenk Tosun at Grand Hamad Stadium.
Ridvan Simsek scored the second goal for Turkey in the 84th minute.
Payam Sadeghian struck twice for Iran, scoring in the 5th and 26th minutes of the first half.
Iran’s Mohsen Mosalman later fired what turned out to be the championship winning strike in the 74th minute.
Mosalman won the Best Player Award while Ali Reza Beiranvand picked up the Best Goalkeeper title.
Sadeghian won the Top Scorer Award.
Iran emerged as the Best Team in the tournament.
Meanwhile, hosts Qatar beat Morocco 2-1 to secure the third spot.
Morocco, who finished last, opened the scoring through Walid El Karti in the 34th minute at Grand Hamad Stadium.
However, a resilient Qatar side hit back with two goals to seal their impressive win.
Saleh Badr Yazidi equalised for Qatar in the 58th minute and later in the match, Hilal Mohd Al Sayed fired home the winner with a minute to go in the regulation time.
