The Ministry of Public Health will open a five-day workshop on baby-friendly hospitals, today, in collaboration with World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The workshop aims to train evaluators of the baby-friendly hospitals.
A number of senior officials and healthcare workers from both government and private health facilities in the country will participate in the workshop.
The workshop comes as part of child-friendly hospital initiative launched by the ministry in November 2016, to support and promote the health of both the mother and baby.
“The initiative is part of the objectives of the National Plan of Action for Nutrition and Physical Activity and in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030," said Dr Sheikha Al Anoud bint Mohammed Al Thani, Director of Health Promotion and Non-communicable Diseases at Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
"The ministry, in collaboration with international consultancies, had analysed the current situation of hospitals and primary health centers in the country earlier as part of a primary workshop to introduce the initiative in November," she added. The primary aim is to ensure best healthcare facilities to baby and the mother.
She further said that the workshop aims to train assessors in evaluating the initiative ats the health facilities and help them to become international accredited evaluator.
They will be given the certificate from National Council for Health Practioners, once the training hours are completed.
The Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) was launched by the World Health Organisation and the UNICEF in 1991 in order to implement practices that protect, promote and support the health of pregnant women, new mothers and their children.
