Doha, Qatar: President of Qatar Olympic Committee H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday crowned the winners of the championships of the 15th Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival (Marmi 2024) at Sabkhat Marmi in the Sealine Area.
The coronation ceremony started with His Excellency honouring Marmi 2024 sponsors including the Social & Sport Contribution Fund (Daam) and the Seashore Group. After that, His Excellency honoured the winners of the field tournaments.
Marmi 2024 Chairman Miteb bin Mubarak Al Qahtani praised His Excellency’s patronage and support for the festival and offered congratulations to all the winners in the various Marmi 2024 tournaments.
The festival in its fifteenth edition consolidated the success it had achieved over the previous years and was more distinguished and present at all levels in terms of the numbers participating, whether from Qataris, GCC nationals or from other Arab countries, Al Qahtani said.
The event saw a record participation of falconers, he added, which gives reassurance that the goals of the Qatari Al Gannas Association have been achieved in preserving this Qatari and Gulf heritage.
Al Qahtani invited the public to attend the conclusion of the festival with the Al Mazayen Championship in Katara tomorrow (Saturday) evening, saying the falcons competing in this tournament are rare.
Deputy Chairman of the Marmi Festival, Abdul Wahab bin Omair Al Nuaimi said Marmi 2024 has become an important landmark and station for falconers, whether from Qatar or abroad, as it meets their ambitions through various tournaments.
Al Nuaimi expressed his thanks to H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani for sponsoring the festival annually, as well as the sponsorship and support of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) and all supporting bodies that contribute to preserving this heritage. He also congratulated all the winners.
