Doha: The General Authority of Customs (GAC) received a delegation from the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), within the framework of the programme to develop customs ports in the member states. The GAC Chairman Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Jamal met the visiting delegation in the headquarters of GAC.

The delegation made a tour of the land, sea, and air customs ports from January 16 to 20. and inspected the progress of customs work at these ports to ensure compliance with conditions approved by the General Secretariat and the extent of implementation of the decisions of the heads of customs bodies and departments in the Gulf countries, which were agreed upon at the meetings of the Gulf Customs Union

The objective of this programme is to identify the challenges facing Gulf customs processes by studying each selected port across member states and to test ideas aimed at improving the quality, efficiency, and speed of work within specific criteria set by the General Secretariat to enhance compatibility between customs work mechanisms applied in the GCC countries.

This includes monitoring infrastructure, express lines, customs and non-customs equipment used, testing automated systems and customs clearance systems, and everything that comes within the customs procedures followed within the port, and the nature of coordination with partner government agencies that interfere with customs work in import and export operations.
