Tashkent: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, participated in the opening session of the 20th Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which began today in the city of Samarkand in the Republic of Uzbekistan, with wide participation from representatives of countries and organizations concerned with wildlife protection.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change was represented at the meeting by Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Nature Reserves Affairs Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Muslemani, who took part in the first day’s discussions addressing mechanisms for compliance with the provisions of the convention, the regulation of international trade in species listed in its appendices, and the enhancement of cooperation among member states.

The State of Qatar’s participation comes as a reaffirmation of its commitment to implementing the provisions of the convention and strengthening efforts to combat illegal wildlife trade by developing national systems and improving the efficiency of inspection and monitoring teams at border crossings.
