The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) has announced that it has opened submission of entries for the third edition of the annual ‘Katara Prize for Prophet’s Poets’, which will continue until January 31, 2018.
Building on the success of its previous editions, 755 poems were presented in the 2nd edition of the ‘Katara Prize for Prophet’s Poets’.
The terms and conditions of Katara’s Award for the Prophet’s Poet stipulate that poems need to focus on the subject of complimenting the prophet (peace be upon him) and his traditions.
Poems should be 30 verses, must be original works of art never before submitted to other competitions and the legal property of the individuals submitting the poems.
Launched in 2015, the ‘Katara Prize for Prophet’s Poets’ is an annual prize and carries a total prize money of QR4.2m.
The ‘classical poetry’ category carries a total prize of QR2.1m to be distributed among the top three winners. First prize winner will receive QR1m while second prize winner will get QR700,000 and third prize winner will take home QR400,000. Winners in the local poetry category will also receive QR1m, QR700,000 and QR400,000 respectively.
