Registration for second Labertha Falcon Contest opens on November 1

DOHA: Registration for the second edition of the Labertha Falcon Competition organised by Al Thakira Youth Centre opens on November 1.
Under the patronage of the Minister of Youth and Sports
H E Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser Al Ali, the six-day competition begins on December 8.
Ali Al Mohannadi, Director of the centre and Chairman of the organising committee, said the panel decided to hold the competition for the second year as it was becoming more popular and attracting more participants.
“It is not a mere competition but an educational, sport and social event because it is part of our heritage we want to pass on to the next generation,” he said, adding five schools will participate in the event organised in collaboration with Doha Sailing Club and Civil Aviation Club.
He said a training centre for beginners has been set up in collaboration with Qatar Heritage Department.
The competition has two categories — one for members of the centre and the other for members of other youth centres.
Registration starts for all types of falcons including, Al Gyr, from November 1 to 8 for local Dau of Shaheen Al Hur and from November 15 to 22 for general Dau for Shaheen Al Hur.
For participants under 15 with any type kind of falcon and those under nine, registration will be between November 15 to 22.
Participants under nine should be accompanied by parents and the committee will provide falcons.
First prize is QR50,000, second prize QR30,000 and third prize QR20,000. A car will also be given away as a prize.
