Reach Out To Asia (Rota) thanked its growing team of volunteers for their dedication and commitment during Ramadan as it hosted Rota’s 6th Annual Ramadan Project Volunteer Appreciation Event.

Volunteers, supporters and guests joined Rota staff for the Appreciation Event staged in the Al Aqool Atrium, Qatar Foundation Recreation Center in Education City. The event was attended by Rota Board Member Sheikha Doctor Aisha bint Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani and Executive Director Essa Al Mannai.

Under the theme ‘New Beginnings’, Rota’s Ramadan 2012 Project saw the Rota Volunteer Network organise a number of community activities including distribution of groceries to families in need, house ‘makeover’ renovations and sharing iftar with a number of community-based institutions.

The Ramadan 2012 Project hosted community iftars for residents of the Qatar Foundation for Elderly Care, children from Dhreima Orphanage and patients from the Residential Care Compound, as well as sharing the joy of Garangaou Night alongside children at Hamed Hospital.

“I am delighted to report that all our Ramadan 2012 Project  activities reflected the true Ramadan spirit, providing practical help and support for various underprivileged groups in the community,” said Rota Executive Director, Essa Al Mannai.

Rota’s first ever volunteer-led Fundraising Iftar,  in which a selection of impressive photography was sold by some very talented volunteers, contributed to raising 172,000QR to support Rota’s projects in Bangladesh.

“The Fundraising Iftar celebrated the work of Rota volunteers, supporters, partners and sponsors. Importantly, the photographs exhibited gave guests an opportunity to see Rota  activities through the eyes of those working in our projects across Asia,” added Essa Al Mannai.

Over 150 Rota volunteers participated the Ramadan 2012 Project, working alongside established Rota partners including THE One Furniture Store and the Social Development Centre.

Demonstrating its commitment to Qatari society, oil and gas exploration and production Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd (Oxy Qatar) was the corporate sponsor of the Rota Ramadan 2012 Project.

Steve Kelly, President & General Manager, stated: “Oxy has been privileged to be a part of Reach Out to Asia’s impressive Ramadan project.  Having seen at first hand the hard work and dedication of the volunteers, we are confident the Rota organization will go from strength to strength in achieving its objective of aiming to improve the lives of the less fortunate.”
