Doha: University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) celebrated International University Sport Week (IUSW) through a diverse programme of sporting and wellness activities across campus, including its Fun Olympics.
The week brings together students, faculty and staff through fitness classes, workshops, sporting activities and friendly competitions that promote wellbeing, teamwork and community engagement.
As part of the IUSW programme, UDST’s Fun Olympics brought together 280 students, faculty and staff representing their countries in a series of team-based challenges. Hamad AlKuwari, Director of Sport and Wellness at UDST, said: “This week reflects the energy, diversity and team spirit that define our University community. Through the Fun Olympics and the wider International University Sport Week programme, we give our students and staff a chance to celebrate their cultures, work together and compete in a spirit of encouragement and mutual support. We believe sport is an integral part of the university experience, helping build our students’ confidence, resilience and sense of belonging to their community.”
The International University Sport Week coincides with the International Day of University Sport (IDUS), an international observance recognised by UNESCO and the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
The occasion highlights the role of sport in university life and its contribution to health, education and social development. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of IDUS. At UDST, IUSW forms part of the University’s broader approach to wellness and student development. As a Platinum-level FISU Healthy Campus, UDST integrates sport and physical activity into campus life, in line with its Wellness Strategy 2025–2027, which promotes a holistic approach to wellbeing across the University community.
Through initiatives such as the Fun Olympics, UDST provides opportunities for students and staff to participate in sport beyond competition, encouraging interaction across cultures and leveraging a stronger sense of connection across the University.
