DOHA: A two-year-old boy was crushed by a car in Al Rayan yesterday and died in hospital where he was rushed for emergency treatment.
Details about the accident that caused the death were not immediately available.
Citing an official from Ambulance Service of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Al Sharq reported that in another accident on the first day of Eid Al Adha, one more person died when his car hit a road railing.
Civil Defence personnel reached the site of the mishap and took the man out of the car and rushed him for emergency treatment.
In all, some 251 critical cases were reported to the accident and emergency unit of Hamad General Hospital (HGH) yesterday.
Four were referred to the heart hospital. One of the four patients’ heart had stopped working while another man had suffered a stroke.
Hatim Al Aaji, from Ambulance Service, said there were several calls for air ambulance from different areas but before the air ambulance could reach the places, car ambulances got there and took the people to hospital.
Al Aaji said bicycle ambulances were also deployed on the first day of Eid in busy areas where car ambulances couldn’t enter like in areas near Aspire Zone, Souq Waqif and Corniche.
Meanwhile, a consultant at the emergency section of HGH, Dr Samia Al Halawi, said some 600 people turned up at the emergency unit, mostly complaining of stomach upsets.
The cases were reported between 6am and 6pm, she said, adding none of the cases involved food poisoning and a majority had problems due to overeating and indigestion following high meat consumption. Most people were discharged after brief treatment and observation.
