Large blast, gunfire in centre of Somali capital: witness

MOGADISHU: A large explosion followed by gunfire was heard in the centre of the Somali capital Mogadishu on Saturday, a Reuters witness reported.

The cause of the blast was not immediately clear, but Somali Islamist group al Shabaab frequently carries out attacks in Mogadishu in its bid to topple the Western-backed government.
