Doha, Qatar: In a creative blend that combines the authenticity of Arabic calligraphy with the beauty of green landscapes, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has completed the “Garden of Letters” mural at Rawdat Al Hamama Park, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “Kahramaa”.
Designed by calligrapher and visual artist Saleh Ahmad AlObaidly, the mural spans a total area of 540 square metres, transforming the wall into a vibrant artistic landmark within the park’s natural environment. The mural was named “Garden of Letters” to reflect its artistic vision that merges the elegance of Arabic calligraphy with the colours and spirit of nature. The artwork creates a unique visual experience that enhances the beauty of the park while adding a rich cultural and artistic dimension to the public space.
Commenting on the project, calligrapher and visual artist Saleh Ahmad AlObaidly expressed his delight in designing and drawing the mural, describing it as a harmonious visual dialogue between letters and colours.

He explained that the design mainly features the “Sunbuli” calligraphy style, carefully selected for its graceful and flowing curves. The letters were created in large interwoven compositions, resembling flower buds emerging from the ground and climbing across the wall in harmony with the surrounding plants and flowers.
Art that withstands time and climate
The artist also highlighted that the mural was designed not only with artistic considerations in mind, but also technical durability. High-quality paints and materials were used to withstand harsh weather conditions, including high temperatures, direct sunlight, humidity, and dust, ensuring that the colours remain vibrant and the artwork retains its visual appeal for years to come.
The implementation of the “Garden of Letters” mural reflects Ashghal’s ongoing efforts to beautify public parks and integrate visual arts into open spaces, bringing art closer to the community and contributing to the enhancement of public aesthetics.
The project embodies a vision that sees Arabic calligraphy not merely as written text, but as a living artistic form that interacts with space and time, enriching the urban and cultural landscape.
