CCQ hosts engineering technology advisory board meet

Doha: The Community College of Qatar (CCQ) yesterday hosted the first meeting of the Advisory Board for the Engineering Technology Programs.

The meeting was attended by Brigadier General Hamad Salmeen Al Jabri, from the Ministry of Defence; Eng. Abdulaziz Ahmad Al Mahmoud, Director of Production Planning and Water Resources at the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa); Eng. Abdulrahman Al Zahed, Maintenance Manager at Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO); Abdulla Al Mannai, Director of the Meteorology Department at the Civil Aviation Authority, and Abeer Faleh Al Hajri, Director of Information Systems Department at the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).

The meeting started with a speech by Dr. Mariam Al Hammadi, Vice-President of CCQ. She welcomed the board members and explained the important role of advisory boards in developing the academic programmes and curricula offered by the college and evaluating the compatibility of learning outcomes for academic programmes with employment needs in the labour market. 

Dr. Khawla Al Zoubi, Head of the Technology Engineering Department at CCQ, gave a detailed presentation on the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology and the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology programmes, including the study plans and statistical data on the number of students, graduates, and faculty members.

Dr. Ahmad Al Omari, Dean of the Science and Technology Division at CCQ, indicated that the engineering technology programmes aim to provide graduates with knowledge and skills, according to international standards, to join engineering jobs of a technological nature to meet the needs of the state or to pursue graduate studies. He added that these programmes include many specialised courses that give students practical skills to enable them to meet the national needs in this field.

The meeting discussed a set of topics, including the mechanism for evaluating the employment needs in the Qatari labour market for engineering technology professionals, as well as some suggested recommendations for developing the skills necessary for graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology programmes to engage in the labour market.

It is worth mentioning that the office of the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs supervises the formation of advisory boards and the selection of members with expertise from different sectors in the labour market and distinguished graduates of the college.
