The family of Mary Jane Veloso has rejected the defense of her alleged recruiters even if they have cleared her of drug trafficking and insisted that criminal charges be filed against them.
Veloso’s father, Cesar, mother Celia and sister, Marites said the counter-affidavits of Maria Christina Sergio and her live-in-partner, Julius Lacanilao reeks of self-serving statement designed to cover up their own complicity and liability.
They said that only the portion where Sergio and Lacanilao has proclaimed the innocence of Veloso is true adding that they knew that the latter has no knowledge, consent or intention to carry, transport, import, or sell or buy illegal drugs in Indonesia where she was apprehended with 2.6 kilos of heroin concealed in her luggage.
They insisted that there is no truth to Sergio and Lacanilao’s claim that it was Veloso and her husband, Michael Candelaria who went to the former’s residence in Talavera, Nueva Ecija to inquire about possible work abroad and to borrow money to defray the expenses for such travel adding that it was Sergio who recruited Mary Jane and even dangled an offer of P25, 000 as monthly salary.
